About the role We’re looking for a talented Software Engineer to join our Backend Services team, fully remote from the UK or EU, or hybrid from our Porto or Lisbon hub. You’ll design, build, and operate the backend services that power our marketplace at global scale — working alongside engineers across the platform to define solutions and ship features to a high standard, on time. Experience & requirements Experience building backend services for large-scale, high-traffic consumer platforms — e-commerce, marketplace, or similarly demanding consumer applications with a large number of concurrent users. Production experience with at least one of Java, Golang, C#, C++, or Kotlin. Experience with one or more cloud platforms — AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure; a relevant cloud certification (Associate or above) is a plus. Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools, e.g. Terraform. Demonstrable database experience with both SQL and NoSQL. Experience building distributed applications. Experience with Git or other source control software. Knowledge of microservices and service-oriented architectures, especially Kubernetes and Docker. Experience building or using a CI/CD pipeline to validate and test code. Understanding of using LLMs to process and query structured and unstructured data, and experience using Gen AI for code generation. Excellent time management, attention to detail, and clear communication skills. Responsibilities Individual contribution: constructing systems, writing code, and managing deployments. Working with your team lead and stakeholders to estimate and prioritise work. Iterating on solutions alongside peers to fit project requirements. Keeping your lead and product partners apprised of revised estimates and delivery timelines. Promoting high standards and process: tests, CI/CD, and documentation. Supporting team members in day-to-day work. Understanding, maintaining, and expanding existing code, and developing new features or systems.
